🌟 Student Voices. Student Perspectives. Student Leadership. 🌟
The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council recently gathered at the Bedford County Schools Central Office to kick off another year of #student #leadership, conversation and collaboration! 💬✨
With both returning and new members joining the council, #students had the opportunity to get to know one another through an icebreaker question: “If you could instantly become really good at one thing, anything at all, school-related or not, what would you choose and why?” Their answers sparked some fun conversations and gave students a chance to learn more about the peers they’ll be working alongside throughout the year.
Students also met with Superintendent Tim Harwell, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Sandy Sorrells, Assistant Superintendent of Operations Neil Watson and Director of Communications Carol Garrette. They then toured the Central Office to learn more about the different departments and how each one supports BCS schools and students.
Throughout the school year, these student leaders will have opportunities to share their perspectives, provide input on district matters and help ensure that student voices are part of the conversation. 🗣️⭐
We’re looking forward to hearing what this group has to say and seeing the impact their voices will have throughout the year!

Thomas Magnet School is holding our second annual Pillow Drive!
❓What to bring: New pillow (still in packaging)
OR
New twin size bed in a bag (still in packaging)--contains a blanket, sheets, and pillow cases
📆When: Collection dates are October 12th - 16th.
🟣Outcomes:
💤In each grade band (K - 2, 3 - 5, 6 - 8), the grade level with the most donations will win a 🎞️ movie 🍿, nap, and pajama day!
🍕The homeroom with the most donations will receive a pizza party!
🍬Students who donate will receive a small treat!

This year’s theme, Passion, Purpose, Position!, encouraged participants to reflect on the important role they play in supporting #students and strengthening school communities.
Throughout SCALI, participants explored critical topics including trauma, mental health support, behavior intervention strategies, collaboration and more. These professional learning opportunities provide valuable tools and insights to help our team respond to #student needs and create supportive learning environments. 🧠🌱🏫

We celebrated 9 to 5 Day with our first Elementary Renaissance Rally! We had a fun Dolly Parton-themed rally! 🩷Students were encouraged to wear pink to school to honor the woman who made sure we had books from birth! 📚 We played games such as "Islands in the Stream" musical chairs, Dolly's Rhinestone Rodeo Relay, and 4 Corners—Dolly Style. 🦋 We were even joined by Cooper Steel's mascot, Fuse!
